Tennenti Tang / Lieutenant Tang
Lieutenant Tang is from the reefs of the Maldives Islands and is mostly tan in color with darker lines outlining the body of the fish. The scapulae is circled in a brilliant blue as well as the outline of the anal fin. The tail in time, will take on a forked appearance as the trailers grow. The tennenti tang is a good choice for the home aquarium. They go through an interesting color change from juvenile to adult and are favored because they don’t get as large as many others in the same genus. They are moderately easy to care for as long as they are provided with a good environment and their nutritional needs are met. The Tennenti tang is similar to the Dussumier Tang in it’s need for ample swimming space and through oxygenation of the water as this species also gets quite large. Often purchased to assist in algae control, Tennenti Tangs will spend their day picking at rockwork and occasionally sand in search for hair algae to eat. They have a well known reputation for being voracious hair algae consumers.
